BeingFreelancer

The Story Behind BeingFreelancer

I launched BeingFreelancer because I was tired of seeing talented people undercharge for their work and get burned by bad clients.

Let me take you back to 2011. I had just created my first profile on Elance (which later became Upwork). I was a decent web developer, but I had absolutely no idea how to run a business. My first job was building a custom WordPress theme for $150. I thought I had hit the jackpot.

It took me 60 hours. I earned $2.50 an hour.

For the next three years, I guessed my rates. I stalked other freelancers' profiles at 2 AM trying to figure out what I "should" be charging. I spent money on connects applying to jobs that were obvious scams in hindsight. I got hit with a 20% platform fee and a surprise tax bill that wiped out my savings because no one told me about self-employment taxes.

From Guesswork to Data

Fast forward 15 years. I eventually figured it out. I raised my rates to $85/hr, built long-term relationships with direct clients, and turned freelancing into a sustainable career. But I saw the next generation of freelancers making the exact same mistakes I did.

The problem wasn't a lack of talent; it was a lack of transparency. The gig economy thrives on keeping workers in the dark about what their peers are actually making.

That's why our team at Internet Pages LLC built this site. We wanted to create the ultimate transparent toolkit for independent workers. No sign-ups required, no paywalls, just real data.

What You'll Find Here

  • 1.The Rate Benchmarker: We scraped and aggregated real market data so you don't have to base your hourly rate on gut feeling. You can see what top-tier developers, writers, and designers actually earn on Upwork vs. Fiverr vs. Direct Clients.
  • 2.The Tax Calculator: A brutal reality check tool that shows you exactly how much money disappears to platform fees and taxes in 7 different countries before it hits your bank account.
  • 3.The Red Flag Analyzer: A tool built from years of painful client interactions. It uses pattern recognition to flag scope creep, unreasonable demands, and unpaid spec work in job descriptions before you waste your connects.
